CTA and partners are creating a multimedia multilingual training kit to support the spread of good participatory mapping practice. The training kit will promote examples of participatory mapping practice from around the world. To achieve this goal we need your help.We would like to include your photos in the training kit. This provides us with a wide variety of examples and applications, and allows you to share photos of your experiences with other practitioners.
To make this fun, and encourage you to contribute, we decided to hold a competition. Photos that you donate to be used in the training kit will be entered into contest (there are 15 different categories). You will have the opportunity to win up to 900 Euros. To enter the competition you have to be a registered user. After login the Photo Competition Menu will appear on the left navigation bar.
Guidelines for submission; selection and awarding procedures
You may submit your photographs and additional data the latest on February 25, 2009. You may submit a maximum of 3 photographs per Category. Your submissions must not infringe on the rights of any other photographer or person.
Photographs must be high resolution original files of camera-made digital photos in JPEG, JPG or TIFF formats.
To enter the competition you will have to register and submit the following information: (i) Your First Name and Family Name, (ii) your nationality, (iii) your occupation, (iv) date of birth, (v) postal address and (vi) e-mail.
Each photo will need the following information: (i) title of photo, (ii) year photo taken, (iii) place and country photo taken; (iv) category, (v) short statement explaining how your photograph is representative of the chosen category (max 300 characters);
Your entry to the Competition constitutes your agreement to allow CTA to make your photograph(s), name, occupation and state of residence, public in the case of being a winner of one or more the awards. In addition it constitutes your agreement to allow CTA to use your submitted photographs in the production and publication of media including the conduct of promotional activities. In the context of the PGIS training kit [insert link] images will be made available under the Creative Commons Attribution-Non-Commercial-Share Alike 2.0 license. You will retain ownership and all other rights to future use of your photographs.
Submitted images will be judged by a jury on relevance to the category, technical excellence, composition, overall impact, and artistic merit.
At the end of February 2009, four short-listed photographs in each category will be posted on the Photo Competition website and visitors will be able to vote for the best image in each category. The voting will begin on March 1, 2009 and end on March 20, 2009. The winners will be announced on March 31, 2009. CTA shall have the right to verify, in its sole judgment, winner eligibility.
Within each category, the best photo will receive a prize of EUR 300. Entrants may submit images for more than one category, but will be eligible to win in a maximum of 3 categories.
Winners will receive the prize(s) via a wire transfer.
